Ryan Reynolds talks Deadpool sequel
How does Ryan Reynolds describe his character Wade Wilson a.k.a. Deadpool in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”? “He’s a cross between Commando and Phantom of the Opera … a man on a mission kind of thing.”
That’s a kind way to describe the mutant assassin, whom we learned earlier today is getting his very own sequel (along with the official word about an “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” sequel).
A source close to Fox says the Deadpool sequel will be produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel, and will be “a complete exploration of this unique character — his origins, his emergence as the Merc with the Mouth.” No writers are attached yet.
Check out what Reynolds has to say about the project, which is more than five years in the making:

Hugh Jackman attached to Ghostopolis
Hot off his turn as Wolverine in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” Hugh Jackman is attached to star in “Ghostopolis,” a Disney flick a la “Medium.”
Based on a graphic novel by Doug TenNapel, “Ghostopolis” follows a man who works for the government’s Supernatural Immigration Task Force (I Googled it and couldn’t find such a real-life task force; doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, though. Sounds very X-Files.)
It’s the job of this agent to send ghosts who’ve escaped from their world back to Ghostopolis. But when a living boy is accidentally sent there, the agent teams with a female ghost (and former flame, natch) to make things right again and bring the boy home.
No director or writer is attached yet, but it’s being produced by Jackman’s Seed Productions and Gotham Group, which produced last year’s “The Spiderwick Chronicles.” There were some pretty fantastic special effects in that movie, so hopefully more of the same with “Ghostopolis.”
By the way, Seed Productions is run by Jackman and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness and John Palermo. They’re working up several comic book projects, including “Nowhere Man” from Virgin Comics.

Is Hugh Jackman one of the best movie stars on the planet or what?! TMZ is reporting that the “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” star bought 67 breakfast trays and 80 gallons of coffee for fans who camped out in front of the theater in Tempe, Arizona,
Fans were treated to bagels, muffins, croissants and coffee totaling $4300 from the Paradise Bakery. I guess he can afford it, but what a guy!

Hugh Jackman premieres X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Hugh Jackman is so gracious with the fans. Every video and picture I’ve seen has him signing autographs, taking photos with fans, and really taking time to meet the people who’ve made him a star.
Here’s a fun video of Jackman doing just that at the premiere of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” which gets a wide release this Friday, May 1, 2009.

Hugh Jackman at the Miami International Airport
Aussie actor and Mr. Wolverine himself Hugh Jackman was spotted at the Miami International Airport earlier today. He always seems so good with the fans, and I’m really looking forward to “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” in theaters May 1, 2009.

Channing Tatum: “I was dying to play Gambit”
It’s a high-class problem when you’ve got so many movies going that you can’t fit another one into the schedule.
Such was the case for Channing Tatum, who says he’s seriously bummed that he didn’t get to play Gambit in the upcoming “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” due to scheduling conflicts. Instead, the part went to Taylor Kitsch, whom I’m sure will do a fantastic job in the role.
Tatum will be in theaters this summer in “Fighting,” “Public Enemies,” and “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.” But the comic-book fan says Gambit has always been near and dear to his heart.
“Man, I was dying to play [Gambit],” Tatum told MTV News. “My dad’s from Louisiana, and I think I’ve always just gravitated towards Gambit, in general. He’s just cooler than anything to me.”
Tatum nearly got the chance when he was almost cast as Gambit’s alter ego, Remy LeBeau, in Brett Ratner’s “X-Men: The Last Stand.” The character was dropped at the last minute.
When the role surfaced again for “Wolverine,” Tatum couldn’t work it out with his packed schedule. He says of Taylor Kitsch: “I’m really interested to see how the guy plays him, because I have a pretty clear version of Gambit in my head. I’m sure the guy is going to be great, though.”
Who do you think would make a better Gambit – Channing Tatum or Taylor Kitsch? Share your thoughts below.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine – Meet the Mutants!
“X-Men Origins: Wolverine” hits theaters May 1, 2009 (check out the trailer here), and now is the perfect time to start acquainting ourselves with the mutants. Check out the profile videos from MTV and tell me your favorites in the comments section below. I’m partial to Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) myself.
Profile: Wolverine. Hugh Jackman rocks it as a mutant on a quest for vengeance.
Profile: Sabretooth. Once friends with Wolverine, Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber) is now on the other side of the blades (probably not a good place to be).
Profile: Gambit. Taylor Kitsch’s card-carrying hero just might prove to be helpful.
Profile: Wade. Ryan Reynolds a.k.a. the infamous “Merc with a Mouth” gets his big-screen debut.
Profile: Wraith. This teleporting mutant played by Will.I.Am promises to “hunt down the devil himself.”

Should X-Men Origins: Wolverine be Rated R? – VIDEO
I posted yesterday that someone had stolen an unfinished copy of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and leaked it on the Internet. But that’s just part of the struggles with the film starring Hugh Jackman as the mutant hero.
An earlier controversy told of an alleged battle between director Gavin Hood and Fox helm Tom Rothman over how dark the film should be. And I’m not talking about cinematography. I’m talking about the darkness of the characters.
The blogosphere was abuzz last summer with rumors that Rothman wanted the movie to be lighter, appealing to a PG-13 crowd rather than an R-rated crowd.
More after the jump, including a video interview with Gavin Hood…
But in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s Matthew Belloni, Hood says the reports were unfounded and that he “never had a stand-up argument with Tom Rothman” beyond the usual studio-director discussions.
I can imagine this sort of thing would come up with movies like this. A good example is “Watchmen,” which every 14-year-old boy wanted to see, but which was really too dark and bloody for that age. While filmmakers can probably do more stylistically with an R-rated film, they’re shooting themselves in the bank account by not appealing to the moviegoing teen crowd.
What do you think? Should “Wolverine” be geared for young teens? Here’s what Gavin Hood had to say about the controversy:
