Three movies hit the theatres during the weekend 30th July 2010 – 1st August 2010 attempting to overtake Inception as it enters its third weekend at the box office. They were the sequel to Cats & Dogs and the weekend’s widest new release Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore the second largest new wide release Dinner for Schmucks and the other new wide release is Charlie St. Cloud.
Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore prequel was released almost a decade ago in 2001 and the reason for bringing it back is because of the financial successes it had following the prequels release. Being a modest $60 million budget movie Cats & Dogs took $93.38 million at the box office domestically and over $200 million worldwide which is quite awesome.
Furthermore strong competition is quite likely from Toy Story 3 and Despicable Me, both of which are doing great in the box office at the moment. Dinner for Schmucks stars Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, and Zach Galifianakis all of whom have the box office drawing power and should and hence should be the greatest strength of this flick.
As far as Charlie St. Cloud is concerned it stars the teenage heartthrob Zac Efron and the movie being directed towards the female audience it should expect some good turnover.
But however needs to be mentioned that none of the above three movies were able to compete with the might of Christopher Nolan’s Inception as it remained to rule the box office for the third consecutive weekend with weekend earnings of $27,520,000 adding up to a total of $193,348,000.
In the second place is Dinner with Schmucks only about $4 Million behind Inception with weekend earnings of $23,300,000 and also pushing down Angelina Jolie’s Salt to the third place which added another $20 Million (taking its total to $ 70 Million) and Despicable Me to the fourth place.
Anyhow Despicable Me is doing really well as it too closes in on the $200 Million mark after one month of release with the flick having cost only about $70 Million.
The other two new releases of the weekend Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore and Charlie St. Cloud could to be said to have opened decently, securing the 5th and 6th place each with $12,5 Million opening day sales although there is a bit of disappointment with Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore on comparing with its highly successful prequel.

Toy Story 3 Wins Weekend Box Office
The June 25-27 weekend Box Office Estimates have been calculated and published in the web. While certain movies that were expected to be at the top of the chart remain there, others have taken their shifts up and down the chart with the new arrivals coming in. Well, no surprises, the computer animated movie, Toy Story 3 has had a massive #1 earning a $59 million for a 10-day total of $226.6, surpassing the totals of Adam Sandler’s Grown Ups and Tom Cruise’s Knight and Day by quite a margin.
Toy Story 3 also had a massive number one debut earning a sum of $109 million over its opening weekend and considering all the movies that hit the $100 million mark, Toy Story 3 is placed at #3, preceded by Shrek 2 and Shrek 3.Toy Story 3 isn’t far behind Shrek Forever After, considering the movies’ cumulative grosses which turn out to be that it is trailing Shrek Forever After by less than only 3 million. And this isn’t much with regard to the movie industry.
In second place is the comedy flick, Grown Ups with an estimated $41 million. However, according to sources, this amounts to about 5 million more than what was predicted and many feel the result of this positive figure is Sandler’s brand name and not to forget the comic cast for the movie including Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, and Rob Schneider. With Grown Ups and Knight and Day in their first week of release, the action thriller, Knight and Day was forced to take one step below Grown Ups, earning less than half of the weekend gross of Grown Ups, amounting to about $20.5 million.
This is disappointing to the Knight and Day fans, but many feel that this is due to the film having to compete with previously released similar genres like Killers and The Bounty Hunter, but you never know what it would be like next weekend, with constant fluctuations in the earnings. Finally, in the fourth and fifth places, screening for the past 3 weeks, are The Karate Kid and The A-Team with weekend gross earnings of $15.4 million totaling $135.6 million and $6 million totaling $62.8 million to date.

Zombieland (2009) Toy Story (2009), The Invention of Lying, Whip it and Capitalism: A Love Story were represented different kind of key notes while providing huge entertainment. After huge competition Zombieland (2009) movie owned big wow for it.
Team of zombies was made huge fun and of course that funny hat man will be the reason for huge success of this movie. This comedy horror movie kicked 3D animated Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs movie in to second place. Jennifer’s body movie also comedy horror movie abut it could not grabbed many fans for it. Many people said it because of the comedy horror movies do not have enough place in fans mind. But the director Ruben Fleischer’s Zombieland (2009) movie proved comedy horror genre movies can captivate people more than horror genre movies. Cast also effect to movies. Woody Harrelson played as Tallahassee who wore hat and carrying guitar every where he goes. Jesse Eisenberg as Columbus, Emma Stone as Wichita, Abigail Breslin as Little Rock play in Sony Picture’s Zombieland (2009) funny flick and it grabbed $24,733,155. Though there were number of zombie movies released all those movies genre horror comedy. So may be this is the first zombie movie which focused comedy than horror.
Walt Disney Pictures’ Toy Story (2009) movie became third in this weekend and it grabbed $12,491,789 storming 1745 theaters. This 3D animated flick is eye popping movie especially for kids. John Lasseter’s most anticipated movie has lucky to catch many fans as in 1995. Toy Story 2 3D double feature movie made huge fun which was mingled with fantasy. It is hard to make 3D version which could invasion theaters with gimmick story. This animated movie pulled Surrogates movie in to fourth place from second.
Warner Bros. Pictures always tries to invent different kind of movies and most of movies became mega hit. They proudly distributed The Invention of Lying (2009) world wide. The director of most popular gimmick story “The Office” episodes director was directed superb high quality hilarious movie. Ricky Gervais leads main role as well as director part. First lie of alternative world attract plenty of people towards this Rom com movie. It was totally different movie which could earn $7,027,472. His last Ghost Town movie was not this much success and this lie invention became up with its bone tickling fun. The reason for huge success of this movie will be Ricky Gervais who can express his unique talents through movies than others.
The Invention Of Lying (2009) could passed sporty Whip It (2009) movie. Fox Searchlight Pictures’ roller derby story renders huge message for all movie lovers. Moxie, desire and dedication are the main things which can carry some one in to top of the success of ladder are the message of Whip It (2009) movie. This falls to sixth place in box office record in this weekend. Fox Searchlight Pictures grabbed $4,650,812 circling 1721 movie theaters. Drew Barrymore is the director of this roller derby pic which combined with comedy made huge entertainment. Of course pretty Ellen Page plays main character as Bliss. Dancing and music competition Fame (2009) movie dragged to seventh place. It should be big drop as it owned third place previous time and now in seven.
It was rare to see economical movie in mega theaters. Capitalism: A Love Story (2009) is wonderful movie which depicted ordinary people’s economical aspect in hawk eyed view. Michael Moore’s documentary movie was distributed by Overture Films, Paramount Vantage. It collected $4,447,378 from 962 theaters in its second weekend.
