Miley Cyrus takes box office – April 10-12, 2009
Miley Cyrus and her alter-ego Hannah Montana scored big at the office this weekend, but only slightly edging out “Fast & Furious” for the top spot. I actually popped in to see the first scene in “Fast & Furious” again – it was that good.
Meanwhile, Julia Roberts and Clive Owen’s romantic romp “Duplicity“ is still hanging in there at No. 10. I’m not surprised, because it’s a really cute film, like the old-time movies with Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn. Here’s the rundown from Box Office Mojo:
- Hannah Montana: The Movie, $32.32M
- Fast & Furious, $27.23M
- Monsters vs. Aliens, $21.81M
- Observe and Report, $11.01M

- I Love You, Man, $6.28M
- The Haunting in Connecticut, $5.90M
- Dragonball Evolution, $4.75M
- Adventureland, $3.35M

Monsters vs. Aliens, Sunshine Cleaning in Theaters – March 27, 2009
A few monsters, one giant alien, a ghost, and some sisters with a weird new business are in theaters right now. Take a peek, and let me know which movies you plan on seeing this week!
Monsters vs. Aliens (PG). Reese Witherspoon voices the main character in this cute animated flick for kids and grownups who are still kids (I fall into that category). Especially loved the 3D animation in this movie. Read my review here. [Trailer]
The Haunting in Connecticut (PG-13). Based on a true story, this horror movie follows one family’s encounter with the dark forces of the supernatural. Looks super scary.
Sunshine Cleaning (R, expands March 27). Amy Adams and Emily Blunt stars in this dark comedy about a single mom and her slacker sister who start a crime-scene cleanup business.
