Weekend Box office laughter with The Other Guys

Two new wide releases made their way to the August 6th – 8th 2010 Weekend Box office and they were the McKay-Ferrell buddy cop action comedy The Other Guys and the third installment of the dance and music featuring series Step Up 3D.

Well their entry did make a few changes to the box office rankings. Christopher Nolan’s Inception after securing the 1st position for 3 three consecutive weeks was pushed down to the 2nd position with a small 32.3% drop. However Inception has earned a cumulative gross of $ 227.7 Million so far and currently sits in 6th place on the 2010 top grossing movies list right behind Shrek Forever After with a $237 Million.

The movie that caused this drop in the rankings to Inception was The Other Guys after solid opening earnings of $36 Million comparative to Inception’s $ 18 Million for the weekend.

The Other Guys pairs Director Adam McKay and actor Will Ferrell for the fourth time after massive box office successes in the previous three collaborations which include Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy ($85 Million) Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby ($150 million) and Step Brothers ($128 million) and hence we could expect this trend to continue with it opening well at the box office.

John Cu directed Step Up 2 has sat in the 3rd position with opening earnings of $ 15.5 Million pushing Angelina Jolie’s Salt to the 4th position. When the first Step Up was released back in 2003, it became a surprise hit at the box office when it opened with $21 Million to make an overall $65M, while its sequel Step Up 2: The Streets opened with $19M and made $58M in total. And if you compare the opening earnings Step Up 3D has grossed the least of the three.

Salt earned an $11 Million and closed at the $100M mark and this would be her 7th $100M movie. Dinner for Schmucks has had a tremendous drop in ranks from 2nd to 5th place while Zac Efron’s Charlie St. Cloud moves down to the 8th position with gross earnings of $ 23.5 Million.

Finally as of next weekend we do have three interesting releases. One Sylvester Stallone’s action flick entitled The Expendables the other Edgar Wright’s Scot Pilgrim vs. The World and thirdly featuring Julia Roberts, Eat Pray Love and so It wonder which out of the three can creep in to good positions at the next weekend box office.

Three movies hit the theatres during the weekend 30th July 2010 – 1st August 2010 attempting to overtake Inception as it enters its third weekend at the box office. They were the sequel to Cats & Dogs and the weekend’s widest new release Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore the second largest new wide release Dinner for Schmucks and the other new wide release is Charlie St. Cloud.

Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore prequel was released almost a decade ago in 2001 and the reason for bringing it back is because of the financial successes it had following the prequels release. Being a modest $60 million budget movie Cats & Dogs took $93.38 million at the box office domestically and over $200 million worldwide which is quite awesome.

Furthermore strong competition is quite likely from Toy Story 3 and Despicable Me, both of which are doing great in the box office at the moment. Dinner for Schmucks stars Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, and Zach Galifianakis all of whom have the box office drawing power and should and hence should be the greatest strength of this flick.

As far as Charlie St. Cloud is concerned it stars the teenage heartthrob Zac Efron and the movie being directed towards the female audience it should expect some good turnover.

But however needs to be mentioned that none of the above three movies were able to compete with the might of Christopher Nolan’s Inception as it remained to rule the box office for the third consecutive weekend with weekend earnings of $27,520,000 adding up to a total of $193,348,000.

In the second place is Dinner with Schmucks only about $4 Million behind Inception with weekend earnings of $23,300,000 and also pushing down Angelina Jolie’s Salt to the third place which added another $20 Million (taking its total to $ 70 Million) and Despicable Me to the fourth place.

Anyhow Despicable Me is doing really well as it too closes in on the $200 Million mark after one month of release with the flick having cost only about $70 Million.

The other two new releases of the weekend Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore and Charlie St. Cloud could to be said to have opened decently, securing the 5th and 6th place each with $12,5 Million opening day sales although there is a bit of disappointment with Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore on comparing with its highly successful prequel.

Two new movies entered the July 23rd – 25th weekend of the US Box office. They were one of the most talked about action thriller Salt starring Angelina Jolie and the family movie Ramona and Beezus.

However only one movie was able to stand beside Christopher Nolan’s Inception which remained in the first position in its second week of release with a weekend gross of $43,505,000 and a cumulative figure of $143,663,000.  Salt was right behind Inception earning a healthy $36,500,000 and Ramona and Beezus with quite a poor opening weekend earning of $8,000,000.

Inception seems to have a long way ahead of it considering the fact that word about Inception has spread across pretty fast competition during the next few weeks wouldn’t be that fierce and midweek sales have been predicted to be enormous and hence secure the number one position for more weeks to come.One thing about Salt that media is giving great prominence to is about the castoff it. As we all know Angelina Jolie’s Salt character was initially proposed to Tom Cruise who passed on the project and opted for another spy flick Knight and Day instead.

What I am getting at is that unfortunately for Cruise, Salt grossed more in its first 3 days than Knight did in its first 9 days and furthermore Salt stands a great chance of hitting the $100million mark while Knight and Day could end its domestic run with $80 million.  Moving forward to the other movies Despicable Me seems to be the audiences favorite animated movie of the season with it withholding the third position in its third week of released with a gross of $161,700,000 and it is said to be Universal’s highest-grossing flick in three years.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice starring Nicolas Cage fell to the fourth place with weekend earnings of $9,685,000 and a cumulative gross of $42,643,000. The rate at which it is going it may not even be able to reach half of its initial budget of about 150 million.  The Twilight Saga: Eclipse as of now in its fourth week of release has managed to sum up a cumulative gross of $279,674,000 while Toy Story 3 has grossed a $379,529,000 in its sixth week of release with the potential of hitting the $400 million mark.

As of now Toy Story 3 is in the 12th position on the list of all time domestic blockbusters.

For the 16th to18th weekend, we had two new movies which entered the U.S. Box office. They were Christopher Nolan’s Inception and Jon Turteltaub’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

It is truly nice when an original piece of work gets all the praise and reward it deserves and undoubtedly this time it was for Inception making $60M in its first three days of release. Well it looks as though it has earned back more than one third of its original budget of 160 million in a matter of three days.

Furthermore for Leonardo DiCaprio, Inception would be the biggest opening of all-time after Shutter Island ($41 million) which opened this year while Director Christopher Nolan holds this record for The Dark Knight which opened with $158M in 200, but he should be quite satisfied with this great opening which turns out to be the 6th biggest opening of the year so far.

Despicable Me Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin’s animated flick crossed the $100 million mark in only its second week of release after its weekend earnings of 32 million. This is still only a little more than half of the massive weekend earnings of Inception.

While the first and the second places are occupied by Inception and Despicable Me, respectively The Sorcerer’s Apprentice in its first weekend of release gets hold of the third place with $17.4 million and $24.5 million in cumulative box office since a Wednesday.

The teen vampire flick, Twilight Saga : Eclipse is holding on to one of the top 5 positions with a $13.5 million weekend haul and hence takes its domestic gross to $265 million.

Right behind Eclipse is Toy Story 3 this summer’s blockbuster which earned in another $11.7 million taking its gross to $362.7 million. As for the top 10s Toy Story 3 is so far the number one highest grossing movie of the year while Eclipse is still 100 million behind it and also $32M behind final gross of its prequel New Moon.

Predators could be said to be performing quite badly since it dropped like a rock this past weekend going from 3rd to 7th place. Having said that Predators is still considered to be a success since its initial budget of $ 40 has been covered up by its domestic earnings

During the next weekend we will see the release of Salt starring Angelina Jolie and hence Inception could expect some competition but with plenty of time ahead for Salt’s release Inception could spread enough and more news about this classic movie.

And the other “Lady in Blue” was the French actress Marion Cottilard who also lead stars in the very own science fiction thriller Inception.

Inception is based on ideas how they could be created stolen and implanted and in other words basically refers to the power of ideas alone. And with the words ideas imagination, creativity etc is linked The Dark Knight (2008) director Christopher Nolan who is also the director of Inception and it seems to be no wonder for the creation of such a great piece of work.

Starring big names like Leonardo Di Caprio, Marion Cotillard and Ellen Page, Inception takes you through a team that his highly involved in stealing ideas from the human mind and selling it to the highest bidder. Tremendously successful the team attempts to try something different like implanting ideas which may or may not be a success.

And there are people who are constantly watch them and giving the team a hard time

The director of all time Christopher Nolan has created the movie in such a way that it inspires the audience in a courageous and ambitious way and shows how one could choose to best live the ideas in this short life span. Inception is easily the most admits film of 2010 and likely to be the most successful with true imagination.

Batman 3 movie will be released on 2012

Lot of people is waiting for the next Batman 3 movie. Therefore the movie fans are delighted about the news comes from the Michael Caine and it was wonderful peak for every one. He was at the premier of the movie Inception and he does admit some thing more than the Inception. Yes still the movie project was untitled and in the very latest that it was sure to be proven the director would be none other than the Christopher Nolan.

After the good three years from the Batman Begins (2005) it was not all that big success as many did guess and according to the biggest of all time The Dark Knight (2008) he really have been so quite for four years to bring the adventure movie back in action. Now most are admires about the next movie and as the Michael Caine spoke last night the movie was going out to be in April it all started and rumors are cant wait to grab some thing more from it.

July 20, 2012 is the scheduled date for the movie release and only the four names are credited under the movie name. Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine So only these four and the director did knows more about the movie and so Michael Caine does have every right to show his expressive about the movie. Even though the movie was untitled the fans of the movie starts to called it off as B3 now and batman legacy can be continued in the same was as it did in the Dark Knight. Record braking movies is what Christopher Nolan is now ahead and we will see how it goes when it comes to April in next year.

Promotional duties are a must for any movie that is nearing its release and this time the cast of the science-fiction thriller flick Inception including Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page and a few others were spotted at the Dorchester Hotel in London England on 7th July 2010.

A photo call session for Inception was later organized and it looked as though they thoroughly enjoyed themselves during the shoot. Inception is considered to be a very much anticipated movie of 2010 and the reasons are quite obvious.

The director for Inception also the director of The Dark Night is one of high caliber. Two new posters of Christopher Nolan’s science-fiction flick, Inception posters has been released. The poster which has tagged names for the different characters like The Forger, The Extractor, The Shade, The Mark, The Tourist, The Architect and The Point Man portrays four main serious-looking characters per poster.

“Inception“, based on a brand new concept of entering dreams and extracting ideas, plans and strategies from the human mind, Christopher Nolan’s movie, nearing its release (16th July 2010) is definitely going to create hype in the film industry. Starring in a lead role is Leonardo DiCaprio, who plays Dom Cobb who is the inventor of this so-called technology. Using this he sells the information to the highest competing bidder.

But, now Cobb wants to attempt something unique, something unusual; He wants to implant an idea rather than extracting. The Academy Award winner, Nolan is by far a director who has given his fans some all-time favorites like Momento (2001), Batman Begins (2005), Dark Knight (2008) etc and hence Inception, which comes, all in all, with a different concept could certainly be a movie in this list.

Let’s not forget, DiCaprio, The Golden Globe Winner (Aviator (2004), who made his mark in James Cameron’s Titanic (1997), is an actor of class and has played a lead role here too.
