Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary have returned to the city where they first met.
The royal couple, who were introduced to each other during the 2000 Sydney Olympics, visited the new Victor Chang Lowy Packer Building at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. The multi-million dollar center includes a cardiac research institute.
Princess Mary, who is patron of the Danish Heart Association, is Honorary Life Governor of the Victor Chang Research Institute. She opened the new research center on the morning of Wednesday, Septemer 3, 2008.
“It was with great pleasure that I accepted the invitation to open the Victor Chang Lowy Packer Building that will not only house the Victor Chang researchers but also scientists from St Vincent’s Hospital,” she said.
During the opening ceremony, Princess Mary met with New South Wales Premier Morris Iemma and Filip Knop, a Danish scientist who works in the center under the Prince Christian Fellowship.
Later in the day, Prince Frederik and Princess Mary enjoyed a celebratory dinner at the center. They were said to have dined on kingfish, prawns, grain-fed beef and semolina gnocchi.
