I’ve been wondering why Terrence Howard was dropped from his “Iron Man” role. I posted last week that Don Cheadle would be taking over the role of Col. James “Rhodey” Rhodes in “Iron Man 2″ and any future movies in the franchise.
This week’s Entertainment Weekly has a few answers. They say: “Hollywood insiders believe the exit stems from Terrence Howard’s difficult behavior on the set of ‘Iron Man.’ But those with intimate knowledge of the situation suggest a far more dramatic backstory: Howard was the first actor signed to the film and, on top of that, was the highest-paid.”
Yowza! So he made more than Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, AND even Robert Downey Jr.! The story also reveals that, according to one source, director Jon Favreau and his producers weren’t happy with Howard’s performance, and spent a lot of time cutting and reshooting his scenes.
More after the jump…
At any rate, it’s unclear whether Howard walked away from the project when a lower offer came in for “Iron Man 2,” or whether Marvel replaced him before he even responded to the offer. I’m guessing the latter, since some stories report that Howard found out about Don Cheadle when it was announced to the press.
Interesting! I’m sure Howard will have his own version of the story in the coming weeks. Moral of the story: Play nice with others!
